Before a single wall goes up, Karen Hoskinson has already built the project—on paper, in her head, and through every detail behind the scenes.
As a Project Manager at Duet Build, Karen’s job is to keep the construction process moving forward with clarity and confidence. She’s the one reviewing the plans, flagging gaps before they become problems, ordering materials, working closely with the superintendent, and staying in touch with clients. From start to finish, she’s a calm and steady hand in a very complicated process.
“I ‘build’ the project on paper before it’s ever built in the field. That’s really how I see it.”
She’s also the one who handles warranty requests after the project wraps—because for her, finishing well is just as important as starting strong.
It’s All Connected
There isn’t one part of the job Karen likes best—she likes how all the parts fit together.
“I enjoy the entire process—from that first meeting with clients, listening to what they want, to guiding them through every phase. It’s a privilege to help people bring their dream home to life.”
She’s walked clients through new builds, gut renovations, and everything in between. And she brings the same mindset to each one: thoughtful planning, clear communication, and a focus on doing it right.
A Project Close to Home
Ask Karen about a project she’s proud of, and she’ll tell you about one that wasn’t on the clock—it was her own.
“Our last home in Florida is still my favorite,” she says. “I drew the plans myself, selected all the finishes, designed the cabinetry, closets, pool, lanai—everything.”
She and her husband raised three kids in that house while living through the remodel. And 14 years later, when it came time to sell, the first family who toured it made an offer that day. “Even then, there wasn’t a single thing I would’ve changed.”

A Tape Measure and a Pair of Hiking Shoes
Karen always keeps a measuring tape close by. And tucked in her car? An older pair of hiking shoes—just in case a jobsite calls for something sturdier than flats.
Outside of work, she’s all about summer—gardening, hiking, and outdoor concerts. And she’s got a history full of fun facts: former marching band saxophonist, interior designer, sorority president, and one of only two women in a room full of men taking the Florida Residential Contractor’s exam—a moment made even more memorable by the fact that she was seven months pregnant at the time.
Why Duet Build Works
“This role draws on everything I’ve done over the years. What I love about Duet is that it’s collaborative. Everyone here brings something different, and we’re all working toward the same goal: doing the job well, and doing right by the client.”
Karen’s Advice to Clients
“Take the time to find the right builder for you. This isn’t just a project—it’s a relationship. And that relationship is going to shape your entire building experience.”
