When it comes to the final stretch of a project—the part where all the visible pieces come together—John is in his element. As a superintendent, he’s known for his calm presence, sharp eye, and finish work background that brings refinement to every detail on site.
What he actually does here
John oversees the construction process from start to finish—managing subcontractors, timelines, budgets, and expectations. But more than anything, he’s there to ensure that what gets built reflects the
quality, coordination, and craft that Duet Build stands for.
The part of the process he still loves most
Before joining Duet, John ran his own business with a specialty in finish carpentry. So it’s no surprise that the final stages of construction are still his favorite—trimming doors, setting cabinets, detailing closets, laying out stairs. “It’s the work the client can see,” he says. “And it’s where all the little decisions finally show up.”
A project he’ll never forget
One of John’s favorite projects was in Durango, where he served as both the contractor and carpenter. The job? Add a garage and carport to a historic Victorian home—without making it look new.
That meant matching every curved fascia board, routing detail, and exposed rafter to the original architecture. “Everything had to look like it had always been there,” he says. And it did.
The tool he doesn’t leave behind
These days? His laser level. But don’t worry—there’s still always a tape measure within reach.

You’d never guess this about him…
He once competed in Gelande jumping contests (yes, that’s ski jumping on alpine skis). His longest jump?
175 feet.
He also has 9 grandchildren (7 girls, 2 boys), and he still bodysurfs at Slaughterhouse Beach in Maui.
What he’s into right now
Golfing with his sons. Skiing. Staying fit. Hanging with the grandkids.
And coffee. Lots of coffee.
The Beatles, always.
Why Duet Build works
“The team is diverse, like-minded, and committed to doing it right. We’re set up for some really successful builds.”
Advice for any client starting the process
“Let’s gather as many details as possible—your goals, vision, and budget—so we can keep the build smooth and intentional. The goal is to look back and know it all came together exactly as it should.”
